Building a beaver proof boundary
Overview
TAF Rural Solutions recently completed a 32-acre beaver enclosure at Southill Park, a historic rural estate in Bedfordshire, using 1700m of Tornado fencing products. This project aimed to create a secure habitat for beavers while preserving the estate’s natural environment.
Challenge
The primary challenge was constructing a robust enclosure across 32 acres, including areas where watercourses intersected the fence line. These sections required additional measures to prevent the beavers from escaping.
Approach
Products were sourced through MW Nice, including:
• 3m Pro-Strain i-Post®s
• 3.2m Pro-Strain® Straining Kits & 3m Pro-Strain® Strut Kits
• RL19/180/5 C14
• RL11/100/5 C10
With water courses passing through the fence line, the netting was buried to a depth of 1.2m for 25m on either side of water crossings.
Result
Despite being a labour-intensive project, Team TAF delivered successfully. The metal-based system ensures minimal maintenance, eliminating rot issues commonly associated with timber posts and guaranteeing longevity.
Tom Fisher, from TAF Rural Solutions was extremely pleased with the performance of all the Tornado products used.
“It was my first time using the Pro-Strain i-Post®, and it’s a brilliant product. It’s quick to install and great to staple to.” Tom Fisher
